juicy couture: the modern pin-up girl!

I had such a great time at my first event with Juicy Couture a few weeks back! With yummy pink prosecco, live models, an awesome photobooth and two excellent hosts, previewing a collection has never been this fun. Juicy Couture's latest collection, entitled "The Modern Pin-Up," is exactly what its name describes. It's a fun, sexy and contemporary take on the classic 1950's Pin-Up girl, and in the world of Juicy Couture, that entails lots of color, preppy layering and plenty of gorgeous prints. What I love about Juicy Couture is the youthfulness and playfulness that resonates through every bag, dress or pair of shoes they design. Being sexy and sophisticated is fine, but when there's an element of beachy-cool freedom to your outfit, the result is something all women crave to exude: effortlessness.
 One piece - three ways!

One of the highlights of the evening was a mini catwalk presentation where the hosts showed us three equally gorgeous ways to style pieces from Juicy Couture's latest collection. I love this sequined dress; it's not excessively glitzy or cheap-looking and only when you take a step closer do you see the subtle sequin overlay. While the updated Juicy tracksuit top is cute, I prefer this dress with a simple navy cardigan and a dreamy tropical clutch.

I absolutely adored this cute little romper - it's not every day you see such a great balance of tropical playfulness and classy-chic, and I'm 100% sure that that's all down to the genius color scheme adorning the print. My favorite look definitely was the denim jacket and black clutch look - I'd love to be caught sporting that on a resort vacation! Juicy Couture's newest collection also includes nautical-inspired accessories which have a really expensive quality to them, despite sporting the excessive decadence synonymous with the brand. The chunky gold chain necklace (also pictured in the denim jacket look) is a wonderful addition to a mix-and-matched look.

I've honestly never thought hot-pink and red could ever go well together, but this neatly pleated shift dress definitely proved me wrong. I love the matchy-matchy striped belt which adds lovely shape to the dress, and that sparklingly clean white clutch is a perfectly preppy way to finish off the look. On the other hand, while I love the green bag and mesh cardigan to bits, I probably wouldn't decide to pair them with this dress. My favorite is the last look - from the glammed-up tote to the big floppy hat, this look is a wonderful marriage of different styles, textures and color. Recurring stripes equals nautical appeal; and you can never go wrong with that.

Since this event clashed with my annual last-day-of-school sleepover with my two best friends, I decided to drag them along for some Juicy Couture fun! Here are some pictures of us from the event and from the sleepover - check out our matching shirts! a nautical affair.

I often blame my incurable fetish for nautical clothing on my father's unhealthy obsession with sailing. We own a tiny sailing boat which we go out on some weekends, and it's safe to say that I've been exposed to a fair share of sand, sea and surf in my fourteen years of life. Now I'm no outdoorsy fanatic, but there's something about the sound of sloshing waves, the elegance of a sailboat and the burnt crisp of a summer sunset that never fails to enthrall me.
.
Forget about generic Aussie surf brands like Quiksilver, Billabong and Roxy; those are strictly for surfers and practicality enthusiasts. Channeling the 'nautical' trend is something very refined and classic, and of course, you don't have to be aboard a luxurious catamaran or amidst the foamy, sparkling waves to rock this look. My advice would be to head for the good old Breton top and red lipstick in times of doubt or wallet-related woes. Both these nautical essentials have a 100% success rate, regardless of what their price tags show.
So go on, march into Forever 21 with your head held high, and grab one (or five) of these sumptuous shirts for a refreshing dose of chic nautical style (same goes for red lippy; no one does it better than the drugstore); your wardrobe will thank you. Stripy bikinis and kitschy sunglasses are optional!
