threepurs.

Once upon a time, there were three lovely sisters, each with a unique yet equally vibrant enthusiasm for getting dressed up. To cut the long (and wonderful!) story short, "Threepurs" (pronounced "triples") is Singapore's newest online store run by these three ladies who I absolutely adored working with during the shooting of their debut campaign. Scroll down for some of the Images shot and edited by my darling Amanda (visit her blog here!).

Threepurs conscientiously caters for fashion lovers through a holistic online buying experience, and offering unparalleled service and excellent quality apparels are at the top of their list of priorities. Threepurs strives to be a hallmark of fashion, creating and providing a wide selection of fashionable and trendsetting apparels as well as accessories for everyday wear. From fashion news, hot styles to the sisters' own editorial picks, Threepurs hopes that every shopper will be able to realize their own individual style through their online store.

As I mentioned earlier, I had a total blast shooting this campaign. With a great makeup artist, my favorite photographer and the prettiest shoes and clothes I've been lucky enough to wear in a long time, it was a sweltering hot afternoon of lots of giggles and fun in the sun. The two looks you've seen in the pictures above are both uniquely glamorous in their own way. The ruched floral dress is perfect with beachy sandals for a sunny vacation, or paired with a cropped blazer and heels for a sparkling night out. As for the slinky black top and fitted white skirt, Sherlyn couldn't have chosen a better footwear option to match this ensemble than good ol' Jeffrey Campbells! Who says you need a crazy color palette to nail a killer outfit? (P.S. Never try walking on an uneven rock surface in heels, it's not nearly as glam as these pictures suggest. It took us more than a few goes to nail these snaps without me toppling over!)

After an exhausting but exciting day shooting at various locations dotted around East Coast Park (see the goofy behind-the-scenes pictures above!), I went straight to shoot a video with Zack (bottom left image) and was so chuffed to be able to take home this gorgeous black off-shoulder blouse and wear it to my video shoot. It's such a comfortable, versatile piece that shows just the right amount of skin - instantly a staple in my wardrobe!

ALSO, be sure to follow the three simple steps above to stand a chance to win an iPad Mini in celebration of the launch of Threepurs! Make sure you encourage all your friends to take part too, as the contest is only running if they hit 3,333 likes before September 30th. Stay tuned to all the exciting Threepurs action by following their social media platforms here; you'll have a bigger chance of winning the iPad Mini if you follow them on Twitter and Instagram too!

alexander mcqueen | AW2012

I’ve always loved looking at fashion “movies” on YouTube, my favourite being Rodarte’s “The Curve of Forgotten Things” featuring Elle Fanning. We often see fashion depicted in the form of video clips of runway shows, writteninterviews with designers and photographsof their latest collection, but the dynamic medium of movie-making is one that is both wildly effective and vastly underused. Movies are a delicious infusion of the three most common forms of “digital fashion” that I listed above; it combines elements of animated visual stimulus with various audio supplements, and can be embellished with a multitude of special effects to create an artistic explosion which illustrates a concept more effectively than any individual method. Movies add new dimensions to fashion: context being one of them. Instead of browsing through a series of runway pictures, seeing an animated display of fashion sort of places it in context within the greater scheme of things.

I recently came across AlexanderMcQueen’s A/W 2012 campaign movie, and at first I didn’t know what to think of it. Fashionista.com described it as a “trippy fashion rave,” which sounds pretty accurate to me. Directed by David Sims and featuring Suvi Koponen, this psychedelic thrill-ride of electric hues and stop-motion style filming is certainly dizzying, to say the least. It’s unlike any other campaign Alexander McQueen has ever produced, and for a while I was tied between thinking:

1.     “Woah, look at this groundbreaking campaign! McQueen has never been so daring and extraordinary before – this is so awesome!”
2.     “I love the ideas behind this, and it’s definitely an authentic concept, but the video doesn’t really hit the spot.”
3.     “This is crap.”

I’ve attached some screen-grabs of the video, and the link to it is here, so I’ll let you judge this campaign video for yourself.

If you’re curious to know, I finally settled on an opinion regarding this video: It was utterly crap. I hate to say this because I’ll forever hold McQueen close to my heart as one of the best designers of all time, but that video really did suck. Admittedly, I haven’t had the chance to leaf through the collection itself, but as for the video, it was just disappointing – nothing more than a repeated clip of Suvi putting on and taking off a pair of metal goggles against a background of a fluorescent kaleidoscope. Kudos to Team McQueen for being adventurous and trying something new, but that video was laughably monotonous and terribly off-topic. But I still love you, Team McQueen – we all have bad days collections!

the faces of fashion.

I've always really liked the concept of a brand choosing a "face" or an "ambassador," someone to live out the brand's ethos and be a human embodiment of what the brand is all about. It's almost like a game of translating a brand's aesthetic into a series of physical and emotional characteristics and traits, and finding a celebrity/model who bears the most resemblance to those characteristics. Having a real, walking representation of a perfume, item of makeup or seasonal collection adds a whole new dimension to its meaning - and makes it that much cooler. Below, I've picked 5 of my favourite model-brand partnerships:

1. Abbey Lee Kershaw x Flora by Gucci
At first glance, Abbey Lee Kershaw is anything but a flower-girl. Her gap-toothed smile could complement a shabby plaid & denim farmer's ensemble, and her piercing eyes would definitely work with a tough biker-chic facade, but the last things I pictured Abbey posing with were a bunch of flowers and one of Gucci's girliest scents. I'm glad to say I was pleasantly surprised by this ad campaign; given the correct styling and makeup such as that in the picture above, Abbey's striking features add a powerful, feminine aura to the soft, floral perfume.

2. Gisele Bundchen x Givenchy
This smouldering Brazilian beauty looks absolutely unstoppable in Givenchy's ultra-cool s/s2012 ad campaign. The sophisticated ensembles on Bundchen and her two beaus look smashing against the gloomy backdrop of a stormy sky, and her free-flowing blonde locks create a great contrast with the knife-sharp aesthetic of the collection. Normally I associate the bubbly blonde beauty with her beachy iPanema shoe collection, so this campaign was both a surprising and refreshing addition to my mental picture of Gisele.

3. Miranda Kerr x Reebok
(source)
I absolutely fell in love with Miranda's campaign with Reebok. The stunning VS Angel clearly proves that her assets can be flaunted in ways other than just in lingerie. The sporty look is amazing on her (well, she's Miranda Kerr. What doesn't look good on her?!) and her smoking feline looks add a healthy smidgeon of sexiness to the sportswear brand. I don't know about you, but Reebok is suddenly a whole lot more appealing to me now!

4. Sheila Sim x SKII
 (source)
I'm so biased towards Sheila Sim; she's such a babe. After seeing her walk in two shows at Singapore's Audi Fashion Festival 2012, I suddenly felt so proud of Singapore for cultivating such a star. Her charismatic, bubbly smile makes me just want to reach out and hug her! SK-II definitely chose the right face - she's naturally radiant and possesses an elegance and dignity that is sadly growing rarer in this industry.

5. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley x Marks and Spencers
(source)
I was originally convinced that this curvaceous lingerie model was far too promiscuous and sexy for home-y brand Marks and Spencers, however when all was concealed by uber-conservative-British clothing at the M&S Autograph campaign shoot, Huntington-Whiteley's English rose features took the spotlight, and she looked absolutely stunning in toned-down hues and timeless silhouettes.

What do you guys think of these campaigns and the models that were chosen to star in them?
